There are three that testify: The Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree.

Oil & Acrylic on canvas, 2016
by Fiona Fung, UK/ France
This piece was commissioned for our church's prayer room. In its creation I was reflecting on the different approach to the visual representation of Jesus between the Protestants and Catholics in France. The Protestants like to show an empty cross, emphasizing the power of Christ's resurrection; that it is all accomplished. The Catholics prefer to concentrate on the suffering Christ who is present with us, accompanying us in our pain and who can bring healing, hence the physical representation of Christ on the cross often portrayed. In this painting I wanted to bring all those elements of truth together. It hangs in the prayer room for people to meditate, along with the verses of Isaiah 61.
