It was quite fitting that Jesus contemplated his coming trials in the olive grove, the olive tree being a symbol of peace and reconciliation.
However, his anguish was increased by the seeming utter loneliness in what he was facing.
Many in leadership can identify with this loneliness in which they sometimes experience. This painting is a reminder that despite experiences and feelings, we are never fully alone. The Holy Spirit is with us as comforter and guide. Olive oil repeatedly represents the Holy Spirit in the Bible.
