Catherine Porter is a WEC worker and professional harpist. Catherine works in Japan and has a vision to use music to bring healing and God's love. She has spent some time ministering to the survivors of the 2011 tsunami. One of her especial pieces is Japanese melody ‘Haru No Umi’ (The Sea in Spring).
Catherine writes in a very moving way about this piece, ‘I was given an hour to perform and present about the tsunami-relief outreach work. I included this Japanese piece “Haru no Umi”, or The Sea in Spring. Although many of the people I work with struggle to look at the sea, one elderly man asked specifically for me to learn this traditional piece and play it for the survivors. Many of the survivors struggle with flashbacks over what they saw that day - people that they had known and loved all their lives being swept away by the sea, crying out for help with their hands lifted into the air.’
